PSG | Wine Bottles & Epsom Salts

This month, we got together to start working on our fabulous holiday decor.  Our goal – make these – wine bottle/Epsom salt lovelies.  We thought it would be a good choice because we know for sure that we all go through enough wine at our houses that finding the bottles would be quite easy.  Additionally, the project would be quick gratification for our DIY DNA at the same time being glittery.  Bottom Line:Win Win.   We tried a few different variations on the original plan:

Michelle and Jennifer painted the bottles a different color, vs the white to match the decor.  In this case they used gold and lime green. The color was beautiful and with the picks they brought to put in the vases, they will be a beautiful contrast and match their house colors perfectly!

Elizabeth painted the inside of a vase a pearlized white and added the texture to the outside.  Again, beautiful color shown through and the pearlized paint added to making it look more glittery and radiant.

Lindsey left her bottles clear for a more natural look.  The clear will really be beautiful in the mirrors of her house with the real color coming from the picks and texture.

We tried stripes and debated chevron patterns but the salt was really too thick to do anything other than what we did.  If you had a Silhouette or something, we talked about also adding in a monogram which could be cool too!

Lessons Learned:

• Spray the bottles at least a day in advance.  Some of us didn’t so we ended up eating way too much and having a few more drinks while waiting for the bottles to dry…
• Have nice ventilation for your spray adhesive…or don’t and see what kind of fun/headache ensues
• Don’t worry about being perfect with taking your labels off at the base of the wine bottle.  They will get covered up anyway.  Do pay attention to the labels at the top part of the bottle though unless you are going to cover your whole bottle
• Transport home wasn’t the easiest…the salt didn’t stay put as much as we would have liked.  If you let them dry longer though or put a top coat over it may work better.

Overall, an awesome project to get us in the Holiday spirit!  Next month – we will be trying our hands at a Favorite Things Holiday Party!  Happy Pinning!
