>So last week we got a call requesting Jeff to attend a freelance project in Las Vegas sponsored by Dr. Pepper that would involve attending the Country Music Awards. The glitch, they needed additional help beyond Jeff and they invited me to go along too! What a perfect way to spend our 6th Anniversary!
We dropped off Cameron at Grandma’s house and headed to the airport. We arrived in Vegas Friday morning around 1 am with our first meeting at 5:30 am. We checked into our hotel at the MGM and tried to get some sleep. Friday was filled with meetings and appearances and exhaustion. We were totally Vegas and went to bed at 6:30 pm after amazing room service.
Saturday we woke at about 5:30 Vegas time/7:30 home time. The strip is actually really beautiful that early in the morning. We walked down the strip and visited all the different hotels doing some planning for our return trip in June with my Bluehouse Girls and our husbands or soon to be husbands. Vegas is amazing in that it changes so quickly. It looks totally different than it did just a few years ago but a few key things are the same…the porn, the walks of shame, and the enormity of the structures.
We found some craft projects to try when we get home including this log bench in the Aria hotel….
And this gorgeous wall in the lobby of some hotel that I cannot remember. It is all stone bricks and so beautiful close up.
On Saturday night we had an event for Dr. Pepper and a private concert with Joe Nicholas and Lady Antebellum. I was a fan before but to say that I’m obsessed now is an understatement. Lady A – as I now call them – was wonderful and we are so lucky to have been a part of this opportunity.
Saturday night was a blur but it did involve Dueling Pianos, New York New York Casino, Sweet Child O Mine, and THIS GUY…
Needless to say, it also involved a 3AM stop at a deli for Advil, Sprite, and Vitamin water.
The next day we worked off the night before by laying by the pool and eating one of the best sandwiches ever at ‘whichcraft developed by Tom Colicchio from Top Chef. It was awesome and work the 45 minute wait in line.
That night we attended the 2011 Academy of Country Music awards. If you watched it on TV, you can see it was awesome. Our seat view doesn’t do it justice. My phone died 15 minutes into the show so this is all I have for pics…
You can see Martina McBride, Nicole Kidman, Keith Urban, Miranda Lambert, and all sorts of other people who I cannot remember in the front row of this pic. It was amazing to see how the stars interacted with each other when they weren’t on stage or camera. Taylor Swift was by far the most sweet and kind star, taking pictures with EVERY kid who came up and waving at the fans yelling her name on the wings.
Our seats were unreal and really close to the awards presenters.
Once that was done, I was homesick and ready to go see my baby. We had one more stop at the VIP After Party. Our flight was at 12:30 so we only stayed for a short while but were able to see so many great performances. Overall, it was an amazing once and a lifetime experience. Thank you to my husband for inviting me along. Just another day in our eventful, never dull, never stay in one place 6 year marriage.
